October means ghost stories — and Charleston, South Carolina, does them best. Cobblestone streets, creaky porches, and flickering gas lamps make it one of America’s most haunted cities. Locals still whisper about candlelight in windows where no one lives.

But here’s the spooky twist: a new Clever Real Estate study found nearly 1 in 5 Americans (19%) believe they’ve lived in a haunted house. Even wilder — 1 in 4 of those folks knew it was haunted and moved in anyway.

While 57% say they’d feel uncomfortable with ghosts, 74% wouldn’t move out immediately if they found out their home was haunted. The market’s that scary. 😅

More than half of buyers — 52% — say they’d still purchase a haunted home, especially for a discount. In fact, 68% would offer below asking, though only a third of haunted homeowners expect to sell for less.

Apparently, ghosts don’t kill deals — they just invite negotiations.
